The music in the video for BORN YESTERDAY is a special tune by the Norwegian folk band KVARTS. Øystein Rudi, the fiddler on the video, grew up on a farm in Sør Fron, Gudbrandsdalen,
a long valley that runs across Norway. Kvarts has twice won Spellemannprisen, Norway's top prize for fiddlers. Øystein himself has won the Landskappleiken (Norway's biggest live-fiddling contest) two times
and Spellemannprisen three times!
"Brorfolkmarsjen" is a tune composed by the band in honor of brotherhood between folk musicians and preservers of folk traditions around the world. Øystein Rudi really is a hero to Norwegian folk culture, because of the music he preserved for future generations, for the innovative yet traditional CDs his group has made, and for the teaching he has done. He even converted part of his family farm into a folk-music visitor center where musicians teach, perform, dance, and revel in one of the world's greatest music and dance traditions. You can see the web site for Rudi Gård, his folk music farm, at http://www.rudigard.no/ (in Norwegian). In the U.S., you can buy great music from Norway at http://cdroots.com and http://norsk.us (including music from KVARTS and from KVARTS's own record label). |
